Specific camera shots/angles

Hello to my loyal followers!! In this amazing blog post, I'll discuss some specific camera shots and angles my group decided to use in our final film opener!

Establishing Shot

This is the very first shot of our film! We use an establishing shot of the car radio. While quite simple, this shot is ESSENTIALLL to setting the stage up for the rest of the film. It immediately tells our viewers two important things. One is that this scene takes place inside a car, and the second, is the fact that we are listening to music (and what song is playing). The representation of the song choice is especially important because it correlates to the theme of our film perfectly. This shot may allow the viewer to pay attention to realize that this music is very symbolic! This shot also allows us to incorporate diegetic sound—the shot of music on the radio makes it clear that the girls can hear the music in their world. However, after this car scene, the song switches to non-diegetic sound, blending into the background but still telling a story with the lyrics!

POV shot

Next, we have (probably our favorite part) the gas station scenes!!!! We captured a TON of footage at this location, including a robbery😜, but only a handful of clips made the final cut into the video😎. One shot we knew we HAD to keep was the POV shot from Vale’s (aka my) perspective. Phi and I were sure we wanted to have a gas station scene as it's very fitting with the fun, spontaneous flashback theme of our film. In the clip, Eli, Maria, and Yve are trying on gas station sunglasses and then put some on Vale. I held the camera at my eye level while they put the sunglasses on the camera. This moment stands out from the rest of the film because it shifts that dynamic, including viewers in the scene and making the moment between the girls feel more personal and real!

Wide shot

Finally, we used a wide shot to capture us girls running through the gas station to show movement and freedommm! We chose this shot to fully display our environment while allowing the audience to see all our characters in action. The framing makes the space feel open, highlighting the carefree and spontaneous energy in the scene😛. Since most of the film has closer, more personal shots, this wide shot stands out, letting the audience take in the full chaos and excitement. It also gives that nostalgic, coming-of-age feel and is more cinematic, like a memory you’d look back on😊!
