Lighting

Hey guys!!! In this beautiful post, we shall discuss......LIGHTING! Yip Yip! Let's get straight into it.

For our project, we'll mostly be using natural lighting. Since our scenes take place in normal, everyday locations, like in a car, gas station, and bowling alley, natural light helps keep everything feeling more real and relatable.  This also fits the nostalgic vibe of our story, especially in the flashback scenes, where the warm lighting makes the memories seem more vivid and happy😊! For the present-day scenes, we might use slightly dimmer or cooler natural light to reflect the bittersweet feeling of leaving for college. We chose this lighting style because it works well with our mise-en-scene, while also being very practical. Leah's mom happened to have some lighting equipment that she offered to lend us for the project! So, while we do have good equipment, most of our scenes are out in public where we can't be lugging around these huge lighting stands and finding where to connect them.

However, my group has decided to use our equipment for some of the flashback scenes at home to give it more of a white, sterile vibe. The lighting can help us create more of a contrast between the flashbacks and present-day clips along with filters. For the flashbacks, we'll use tungsten light to give a warmer nostalgic glow. The tripod the lights are on can also help with staying consistent through a whole clip and not moving around everywhere. With these tools, we can switch up the significance of certain scenes to make them more emotional and impacting, but even with just the natural light, we may be able to do the same. If we had a bigger budget or access to more equipment, we might've incorporated 3-point lighting to create depth and emphasize some moments.

Here is some of Leah's mom's lighting equipment that we are borrowing☺️🙏!
