Hellooooo everyone!! In this AMAZING blog, we will be talking about color in our project and how it will help invoke emotions in the audience and really pull our opener together!

The use of color in our opener plays an important part in the opener by setting the tone and reinforcing the nostalgic emotions in the story. By using warm yellow lighting in the flashbacks, we will evoke a comfortable and intimate vibe that makes the girls' final moments bittersweet. Yellow lighting and tones are associated with happiness and warmth making it a perfect color for our film! Even though it is a sad moment in their lives, the lighting represents how relaxed and happy they are with each other. This may draw the viewers into the closeness of Mandy, Lucia, Chloe, and Amber. However, we plan to use different types of lighting in our opener to help represent the feelings of the girls in different time periods. Like I said, in the flashbacks we will use warm yellow lighting but for the present times, we will keep it natural with no filters or editing. These scenes will probably look a little more lifeless and sterile since we will only be using the natural sunlight from my window and (maybe) a white light. The difference in lighting between the flashbacks and the current time will help the audience tell the difference between the flashbacks and current scenes. It also helps reinforce that old times were better, when everything was perfect between the four and no one was leaving.
Each girl's costume uses a different color to represent the difference in their personalities but the color chosen doesn't really define how they are or act. For the young kid scenes, we picked a lot of pastel colors for our costumes to give it a sense of simplicity. The light shades of yellow, green, blue, and white go well with the theme of innocence and purity of their childhood. during the editing process, Phi and I will use filters to visually represent the girls' inner thoughts throughout the opener. For instance, once the girls get the text message and the tension begins, we will slightly change the hue to a reddish tone, representing the suspense and anger they may be feeling. This will be important for the viewers as the film ends on an abrupt note, leaving them wanting more.
This is a good example of how we want our flashback scenes to look—warm and yellow!
