Final Project Idea

Hey guys, welcome back to my blog channel!! Today I will be revealing my FINAL idea (if my group and I don't end up tweaking anything) for my AICE media project!!

Our final project idea is to create a coming-of-age film opener that focuses on the emotional goodbye of a group of girls ( Lucia, Chloe, Amber, and Mandy) as they prepare to leave for college after high school. The film would capture the bittersweetness of growing up and moving on, whether that be with your childhood home or closest friends. It would also show the girls' friendship while sneaking in an unexpected plot twist that makes their final moments tense instead of sentimental, leaving the audience intrigued and wanting more (hehe very mysterious, right).

Our project falls into the coming-of-age genre, which usually focuses on characters' growth, emotional transitions, and finding out who they really are. Our film fits these conventions by showing the girls' heartfelt goodbyes and showing their old memories together. We would open the video off with all of us in Lucia's childhood room, utilizing mise-en-scene elements like stuffed animals, friendship bracelet kits, and childhood photos of the four to evoke nostalgia and visually demonstrate their history together. We would show all four girls hug and tear up as they shared their final moments before splitting up. The story would switch between present-day moments with close-up shots to emphasize their emotions and flashbacks, which we could use a warm light and less focus to create more of a dream-like memory. We would also use match cuts to connect the similarities between them as children and their present-day selves, reinforcing how time has passed.

What sets our project apart is the twist at the end of the opener. After the emotional goodbyes, the mood dramatically changes when all the girls receive a mysterious text message saying, "One of you is hiding something." This message causes tension as the sadness of their final moments together is replaced by their suspicion and discomfort. The camera would focus on their changing expressions and subtle glances at one another, highlighting their growing distrust. This unique element of suspense adds mystery to the story, differentiating it from any other coming-of-age film. This plot twist changes their friendship and leaves the audience eager to know the secret behind the text message. Who sent it? Which one of them was hiding something? Who wrote and filmed this amazing opener?
